The car key fob is an electronic device.
Key fob is used in two types.
The first is a standard electronic key installed by the manufacturer, with which the car can be opened either remotely by pressing a button or mechanically by opening the car lock; also using this type of Key fob, depending on the car model, the engine is started.
The second type is a key fob from a car alarm, which is additionally installed on your car and combines the functions of a control panel and a transmitter. With its help, commands are transmitted to the central alarm unit, turn on the security system and allow you to control the functionality of the car.
Signs of a Key fob defect
- Central locking and security system do not respond to button presses.
- Limited range.
- The car won't start.
- The security alarm goes off randomly.
If diagnostics of the Key fob show that its repair is not economically feasible due to its high cost, then its replacement is recommended, although depending on the specific type of malfunction, repair may be possible.
Key fob repair:
- There is no response when pressing buttons;
- Key fob reprogramming required;
- LCD replacement.
The most common reasons why car owners replace the Key fob are:
- His loss;
- Mechanical damage;
- Electrical short circuit, board oxidation.
If serious problems arise with the operation of the Key fob on the road, the best solution would be to disable the entire security system of the car to restore the operation of the car engine. If it is impossible to disable the security system, you will have to call a tow truck.
Sometimes it happens that the car’s security system is so outdated that it is not possible to select the appropriate Key fob for replacement. In such situations, a complete replacement of the entire security system of the car will be required.
